Buffalo, NY – Madelin Marquart reached safely three times with two hits and a walk, but the SUNY Canton softball team lost two games in a twin bill at Buffalo State Friday.
The first game was highly competitive, with
Sydney Tanner pitching a nice game, but the offense was not there for the Roos as they fell 3-0. The Bengals broke out the bats in game two, scoring 12 runs in the first two innings to finish the game in five ahead 15-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
- In the bottom of the first, Buffalo State scored the game's first run with a single, a stolen base, a groundout, then a sacrifice fly.
- Two innings later, the Bengals juiced the bags on two singles and a walk. Another sacrifice fly made the game 2-0 after three innings of action.
- Offense for SUNY Canton was hard to come by against Bengals starting pitcher Izzy Pezdek. Cassandra Forrest was drilled in the first, and Ivy Ostrander reached on a single in the second inning, but the Roos were unable to get a run across the board.
- Buffalo added one more in the fifth to make it 3-0. The Roos had a walk and a base hit in the sixth, but were unable to cash in.
- A couple of groundouts and a strikeout ended the game in the top of the seventh with the Bengals completing the game one shutout.
- Ostrander and Marquart logged hits in game one and Emily Hobart reached on a walk.
- Sydney Tanner pitched a complete game with eight hits, three earned runs, and a pair of strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
- The Buffalo State offense was electric in the second game, getting four straight singles in the first, then a three-run triple to go up 4-0.
- The second inning was not pretty with six hits and some miscues leading to eight more runs in the frame for the Bengals.
- The Roos had some hits at the plate, but hitting with runners on base proved a bit challenging for SUNY Canton. Marquart led off the first inning with a base hit and Ava Bouchey singled to start the second, but the Roos were unable to supplement the runners.
- Tarbox singled in the third and Marquart walked, but two more were left on base for the Roos.
- The Bengals scored three more times in the fourth inning, and Buffalo State did not allow a hit in the final two innings as SUNY Canton fell 15-0 in the back end of the doubleheader.
- Marquart was on twice with a hit and a walk while Bouchey and Tarbox singled in the loss.
