Nappi Scores Twice in SUNYAC Home Opener vs. Oswego

Canton, NY – Caroline Nappi stayed hot with two more goals against the preseason conference favorite, the Oswego State Lakers, but the Roos dropped the contest 13-2 in their home SUNYAC opener Tuesday.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 13, SUNY Canton 2
  • Location: SUNY Canton Turf Field – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (3-5, 1-3 SUNYAC) | Oswego (6-4, 3-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego scored on their first possession, but the Roos won the resulting draw control, drew a foul, and then Caroline Nappi scored on the resulting woman-up stand to tie it at 1.
  • The Lakers scored again later, but the Laura Falandys made some nice saves towards the end of the quarter to keep the game at 2-1.
  • However, the second quarter was all Lakers as they cashed in on pretty much all the opportunities that they had. The Roos had a couple of good looks, but possession was largely dominated by Oswego in the period. The Lakers commanded an 8-1 advantage into the half.
  • The Roos were the first team to score in the second half. Ava Bodnar controlled the ball behind the net and found a cutting Caroline Nappi who scored right in front of the net.
  • Unfortunately though, the Lakers cashed in with three more goals in the period and started to run away with an 11-2 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • Bodnar, Nappi, and Sydney Dunn all had shots on goal in the final quarter, but the Roos failed to tack on and fell 13-2 at game's end.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nappi scored both of SUNY Canton's goals while Bodnar and Hailey LaShomb cashed in with assists. Dunn had three draw controls and Nia Shill picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Aubri Greene had three goals and two assists for Oswego. Alexis Hill, who came into today's game as the SUNYAC leader in points and goals, was held in check with only one goal and two assists.
  • The Lakers won shots on goal 19-5, had more ground balls (25-17), and committed 18 turnovers while forcing the Roos into 28.
  • Laura Falandys made six saves while Mikela Montes made one. Alana Iacovissi started the game for Oswego, earning the win with three saves on five shots.
