Bodnar, Whitley & Craft Lead Roos in SUNYAC Opener at New Paltz

New Paltz, NY – Ava Bodnar had a hand in all three goals, Kate Whitley recorded team-highs of five ground balls and three caused turnovers, and Karlie Craft tallied team-bests of three draw controls and three caused turnovers, but the Roos were unable to overcome a 9-1 halftime deficit in a 13-3 road loss at New Paltz on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts jumped out to a quick lead scoring four goals over the first 5:23 of the game including a pair from Lexi Atwater. With the Hawks leading 5-0, Caroline Nappi scored with the player advantage netting her third of the season off a feed from Bodnar. New Paltz led 5-1 after the opening quarter.
  • The hosts continued to control play in the second stanza outscoring Canton 4-0 behind a pair of goals from Mia Baldinger. New Paltz led 9-1 at intermission.
  • The teams exchanged goals to start the third quarter with Bodnar caging her team-leading 10th goal of the season. New Paltz scored the final three goals of the third quarter with two more from Baldinger and one from Atwater.
  • The Roos netted the only score of the fourth frame with Bodnar finding Hailey LaShomb for her sixth of the season for the 13-3 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bodnar led the Roos with three points on a goal and two assists. Whitley registered team-highs of five ground balls and three caused turnovers. Craft registered a team-best three draw controls and three caused turnovers to go with a pair of ground balls.
  • Allison Beattie tallied five points on two goals and three assists, while Baldinger scored four times and Atwater added three.
  • Laura Falandys made 10 saves in the loss, while Piper Mascaros turned aside two shots in the first half in the win. Gabriella Tommaso made four saves in the second half allowing two scores.
  • New Paltz held the upper hand in shots on goal (23-9) and ground balls (29-17). The Hawks went 2-for-5 on free-position shots, while Canton was 0-for-5. New Paltz was 10-for-11 on clears with 18 total turnovers, while the Roos were 8-for-20 with 26 turnovers.
