THE BASICS
  • Result: Neumann 15, SUNY Canton 5
  • Location: Neumann University Turf Field – Aston, PA
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-2) | Neumann (1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The ball was in the Roos end for a good chunk of the first quarter, but Laura Falandys came up with some big saves early on.
  • After no scoring for a while, the first goal was scored by Neumann with 7:44 left in the first half. Later when it was 2-0 Knights, Kate Whitley scored off a nice centering pass by Nia Shill on a man-up opportunity.
  • Winning draw controls proved challenging for the Roos though, and Neumann was ahead 5-1 in a whistle-plagued first quarter.
  • Ava Bodnar gave the Roos some life with a goal just over a minute into the second half, but it was all Knights after that. Neumann continued to force turnovers and got the ball into the center area of the net much too easily.
  • The first half ended with the Roos in a 9-2 hole. Shots on net were 18-3 in favor of the home team.
  • Sienna Hillicke had the only shot on goal in the third period, as the Knights took a 13-2 advantage heading into the final stanza.
  • To begin the fourth quarter, Hailey LaShomb cut in front of the net and received a pass from Caroline Nappi to score 29 seconds into the quarter. Sydney Dunn made a nice move and tallied an unassisted goal as the Roos had two unanswered goals and trailed 13-4.
  • Dunn got another goal in the closing minutes and plenty of positives ensued from the final quarter of gameplay for SUNY Canton, outscoring Neumann 3-2, but the Roos lost 15-5 to conclude their Pennsylvania trip.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dunn scored twice and Whitley, LaShomb, and Bodnar all found the twine once for the Roos. Hillicke, Shill, and Nappi all had assists in the game as seven players posted points for SUNY Canton. Dunn won four draw controls while Karlie Craft picked up four ground balls and three draw controls.
  • The Knights were paced by Alena Catka, who was a beast in draw control category with 11 wins out of the game's total 21. She also led Neumann with four goals. Krista Geibler caused six turnovers and had a three-ground ball game.
  • Shots on goal were 25-8 in favor of the Knights. The Roos struggled with turnovers, committing 27 with 19 caused by Neumann. SUNY Canton forced 20 cough-ups, causing 10 of those.
  • Falandys saved nearly half the shots she faced with 14 saves and 15 goals allowed. Sarah Kiraly for the Knights stopped 5-of-10.
