THE BASICS
  • Result: St. Lawrence 3, SUNY Canton 1
  • Location: Ronald T. Burkman Gymnasium – Canton, NY
  • Records:  St. Lawrence (9-7) | SUNY Canton (11-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The match began with the Saints up 5-2. After much back-and-forth, the Roos found themselves amid a 12-7 uphill climb after a kill from Clara Bond. Three of the next four scores went to St. Lawrence before a five-point Canton run, including a pair of aces from Madalena Balisciano, tightened things to a two-point contest.
  • Both squads traded scores leading up to four consecutive points for the hosts, making it a 21-15 battle. A pair of kills from Viv Sieja put a dent in the Roos deficit before the Saints eventually took set one, 25-18.
  • Looking to get even, SUNY Canton kicked off the second stanza with a 7-4 advantage after an Abby Raven kill. St. Lawrence went on to shrink the Roos edge slightly as the scoreboard read 12-10. The Roos countered with a four-point streak, including a kill from Tionna Edghill, to grow their margin to six.
  • After exchanging points once again, the Saints found their footing, stealing five of the next six scores as it became a 17-15 match. The visitors then grew their lead to 21-17. Soon after, St. Lawrence went on a tear, taking seven of the next eight points to grab ahold of a late two-score edge. The Saints snatched game two from Canton, 26-24.
  • The third stanza saw the score deadlocked at 11 apiece. Kills from Bond and Buggs-Morehouse gave the Roos a slim edge. Both squads remained neck-and-neck as Canton maintained their narrow advantage at 17-15.
  • A four-point spree extended the Roos lead in the closing moments of the set as they began to run away with the score. SUNY Canton went on to take the third game, 25-19, tightening the series to 2-1.
  • It was all SLU to begin the fourth set as the Saints came out to a 5-0 lead. The Roos clawed back, balancing the score at eight apiece after a kill from Raven. Canton continued to linger as a Bond kill made it 14-12 to the home team's benefit.
  • The Saints went on a 7-1 run to slash the Roos comeback hopes en route to a 25-16 victory.
