Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team defended home court against the Lakers on Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-2 victory.
Emerson Coulter and
Abby Raven combined for 33 kills, while
Ava Buggs-Morehouse added nine kills and three block assists. Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos came out to a 5-1 advantage to kick off the match. The Lakers followed up with a seven-point run to steal the lead. Both teams continued to trade points, bringing things to a 16-12 contest in favor of Oswego.
- The Lakers took four consecutive points to extend their edge to eight. Canton countered with a four-point streak of their own, including an ace from Olivia Tran, bringing the Roos to a deficit of 20-16. After much back-and-forth, Oswego claimed the first stanza, 25-19.
- SUNY Canton came out hot to begin the second game, stringing together six consecutive scores in a run that consisted of kills from Bond, Raven and Coulter. The Lakers countered with an equivalent point streak to put the scoreboard at 6-6. As both squads fought for control of the score, they found themselves amid a 13-10 contest in favor of the Roos.
- An ace from Kaelyn Boliver capped off a four-point run for Canton. The home team eventually found themselves up 20-14 before five points in a row for Oswego tightened things up, making it a 20-19 battle. The Roos took five of the next six points, winning the set off a kill from Raven.
- A highly-contested third stanza found both teams locked at 11-11 after a kill from Buggs-Morehouse. The visitors soon went on a streak of five to go up 16-11. As the contest raged on, SUNY Canton found themselves down 21-18 late. Four of the next five scores went to the Lakers as they won their second set of the afternoon.
- Facing crunch time as the fourth game began, the Roos piled on 10 points to Oswego's four, including three kills apiece from Bigelow and Raven. Canton rattled off three of the next five points to make it a 13-6 contest. It was the Lakers who then took four scores, countered by five for the Roos as they extended their advantage to 18-10. Oswego's comeback attempt was cut short as Buggs-Morehouse secured a 25-21 victory with a kill.
- The deciding stanza proved to be a dramatic one, with the score being tied in seven different instances. The Lakers broke a 4-4 stalemate taking a two-point edge over the host squad. Neither team could find control of the set, locked at 10 points each, before SUNY Canton clawed their way to a 13-10 edge. It was Raven who delivered the final two kills for the Roos as they claimed victory, 13-15.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coulter's 19 kills against Oswego are tied for seventh-all time in a single match in the SUNY Canton D-III era. The outside hitter added 16 digs with one solo block and two block assists.
- Raven totaled 14 kills and an ace. Buggs-Morehouse tallied nine kills and three block assists. Bigelow contributed eight kills, 10 digs and two aces.
- Boliver led the Roos in assists with 27. Balisciano followed up with 22.
- SUNY Canton outpaced Oswego in kills (60-57), aces (12-8), and blocks (6-5). Both teams were even with 54 assists, while the Lakers had the edge in digs, 73-69.
