New Paltz, NY – Michael Newcomb and
Tanner Amell led the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team with two goals each but the Roos fell 24-7 in a SUNYAC road matchup at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon.
Devin Guerriero had a strong day at the X winning 21 faceoffs on the day, while picking up a game-high 12 ground balls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead just over 13 minutes into the game before Amell broke the scoring drought for Canton. New Paltz led 5-1 after one quarter.
- Newcomb scored a man-up goal and Jonney Mclear added an even strength goal in the second quarter as the Roos trailed 14-3 at intermission.
- Play was even in the third with both teams scoring two goals apiece. Charles Grandaw and Newcomb found the back of the net in the stanza.
- Amell and Eli Bullock tacked on fourth quarter goals for the Roos leading to the 24-7 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Amell and Newcomb led the Roos with two goals each while Mclear finished with a goal and assist. Guerriero went 21-for-28 on faceoffs picking up a game-high 12 ground balls, while also adding an assist. Holden Hewlett picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Ethan Scully led New Paltz with four goals and four assists, while Anthony Senecal added four goals and two assists. Blake Lyons scored six goals and Killian Yombor registered two goals and four assists.
- Zach Novak made four saves in the first half to earn the win for the Hawks. Hayden Todd turned aside 10 shots in the loss for Canton.
- New Paltz held the upper hand in shots on goal (34-17) and ground balls (28-27), while Canton controlled faceoffs (23-11).
