Lebanon, PA – John McCall and
Brody Fuhrey both saved their best round of the four-round 72-hole Empire 8 Championship for last shooting rounds of 10-over par 82 and 11-over par 83, respectively, on Saturday at Lebanon Country Club. The duo finished in the top 20 placing 19th and tied for 20th, respectively, out of 35 golfers who completed all four rounds of the championship.
The third and final rounds of the 2024-25 Empire 8 Championship were played on Friday and Saturday at Lebanon Country Club. The first 36 holes were in the fall at Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club on October 6th and 7th. To be eligible for the individual title a player must play in all four rounds of the championship.
Anthony Marion, who only competed in the two rounds this weekend, shot the lowest score among 13 players that only played the two spring rounds, while
Kahontiio Lazore was third among those players.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- McCall shot 41 on both sides on Saturday finishing his round with five pars and two birdies. Fuhrey went out in 42 before coming home in 41 tallying seven pars on the day.
- Marion went out in 38 before coming home in 37 shooting an impressive round of 3-over par, 75, tied for the second-best round of any player on the course on Saturday. His 36-hole score of 7-over par, 154, was tied for the third best this weekend just seven strokes behind Nazareth's Lincoln Crosby's 147.
- Crosby was the medalist for the four-round Empire 8 championship with 302 strokes, just one stroke ahead of St. John Fisher's RJ Juodaitis.
- Lazore shot an 82 on Saturday (41-41) with eight pars and a birdie. Kyle Murphy also improved on Saturday by 12 strokes from Friday's round to shoot an 84. Tyler Martin concluded the Canton contingent matching his Friday round of 97 with the same score for the second straight day.
- The Roos finished in sixth place out of eight teams with 1349 total strokes (342-351-334-322) ahead of Keuka (1402) and SUNY Poly (1451). St. John Fisher won the team title with 1215 strokes and is the pre-determined host for the NCAA Division III Championship in May. Nazareth was second (1266).
McCall Named to Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Team
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024-25 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team.
John McCall earned that recognition for the Roos. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
