Canton, NY – Maddy Caron tied a game-high with five goals and in the process set a new SUNY Canton career goals program record. With her fourth goal of the game with 2:19 left in the third quarter she set a new career scoring mark with 222 career goals breaking the previous mark of
Samantha Dayter '24.
Visiting SUNY New Paltz outscored the Roos 8-2 in the opening quarter to earn a 16-7 victory in the SUNYAC opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got on the board first less than two minutes in when Morgan Montgomery found Maddy Caron.
- The Hawks tallied seven unanswered goals with three from the stick of Morgan Atwater and two from Kaitlyn Shaw as they led 7-1.
- Lindsey Wunder broke the Canton scoring drought on her birthday with her 16th goal of the season. New Paltz led 8-2 after the opening quarter.
- Play was much closer in the second quarter with the Hawks holding a slim 3-2 edge. Caron scored both Canton goals on free-position shots. New Paltz led 11-4 at intermission.
- The Hawks outscored the Roos 3-1 in the third quarter but Canton's lone tally was Caron's fourth of the game and in the process she set the Roos all-time program record for career goals at 222.
- Each team netted a pair of fourth quarter tallies with Caron and Dunn scoring for Canton leading to the 16-7 final. Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Caron tied a game-high with five goals and now sits at 223 career goals scoring a team-best 34 so far this season. Her 34 goals currently lead all players in the SUNYAC in scoring. She also picked up a game-high 13 draw controls on Saturday and went a perfect 4-for-4 on free-position shots. Wunder and Dunn scored the other two Canton goals with Wunder picking up three draw controls. Molly Sweeney, Kenadie Garrow, Aayliah White and Ali Servati picked up three ground balls each with Garrow causing a team-high two turnovers.
- Lexi Atwater led New Paltz with five goals and one assist, while Atwater added four goals and two assists. Shaw supplied three goals and two assists and Shannon Lewis registered two goals and two assists.
- Gabriella Tommaso stopped four shots in the first half to earn the win for the Hawks, while Piper Mascaros turned aside six shots in the second half.
- Olivia Scott made eight saves in the loss for the Roos.
- New Paltz held edges in shots (31-23), shots on goal (24-17) and ground balls (27-18). Canton owned the advantage in draw controls (17-10). The Roos were 6-for-9 on free-position shots, while the Hawks were 2-for-3.
