Todd Stops Season-High 19 Shots Against Hartwick

Canton, NY – Junior Hayden Todd made a season-high 19 saves in just three quarters of action, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell 19-7 in non-conference action to Hartwick on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Canton.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hartwick jumped out to an early 4-0 lead as three different Hawks scored in the first two minutes of the game.
  • The Roos responded with three straight goals as Charles Grandaw, Austin Mesler and Caeden Goodnough each found the back of the net to get Canton within 4-3 midway through the quarter.
  • The Hawks scored three of the final four goals of the first quarter with Mesler netting the other Canton tally as the visitors led 7-4 after 15 minutes of action.
  • Hartwick controlled the second stanza outscoring Canton 5-0 to take a 12-4 lead into intermission.
  • The visitors netted the first two tallies of the third quarter to open a commanding 14-4 lead. Dating back to the end of the first quarter Hartwick ran off eight straight goals to turn a two score lead into a 10 goal advantage.
  • Michael Newcomb and Goodnough caged back-to-back goals in the third as Hartwick led 15-6 after three.
  • Mesler scored Canton's lone goal of the fourth quarter as the Hawks scored four straight for the 19-7 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Mesler led the Roos with four points on three goals and one assist. With his three goals and one assist Mesler is now tied for the Roos D-III era program record for points with Hunter Olsen '22 as the duo both have 216 career points. Mesler is one point away from breaking the all-time points record and two goals away from setting the Roos D-III era goals record alone at 119.
  • Goodnough added two goals and one assist for the Roos, while Grandaw and Newcomb scored once each. Hayden Todd led the Roos with five ground balls, while Liam Waite picked up four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Colin August paced Hartwick with six goals, while Taharihwakohe Lazore added three goals and two assists.
  • Kaiden Johnson earned the win for the Hawks making eight saves over the first 48 minutes, while Chris Andersen stopped four shots in relief.
  • Todd took the loss making a season-high 19 saves in the first three quarters, while Sam Servati stopped three shots in the fourth quarter.
  • Todd now has 425 career saves trailing only Corey Spuck's 519 saves and Kody Kocsis' 603 saves in the Roos D-III era record book.
