Austin Mesler broke both the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse program records for career points (217) and goals (119) in a road game at Utica University on Saturday. SUNY Canton outscored Utica 5-3 in the second half, but were unable to overcome an 11-4 halftime lead for the Pioneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead scoring five goals over the first nine minutes of the game.
- Canton got on the board when Jonney Mclear scored an unassisted goal and less than a minute later Michael Newcomb found Mesler for a man-up goal. The goal marked Mesler's 217th point of his career breaking the Roos D-III era program record for career points previously held by Hunter Olsen '22.
- Utica scored another goal with 1:26 left in the quarter as they led 6-2 after 15 minutes of action.
- The Pioneers outscored the Roos 5-2 in the second quarter with Caeden Goodnough and Eli Bullock caging unassisted goals for Canton. Utica led 11-4 at intermission.
- Both teams scored two goals each in the third quarter with Devin Guerriero feeding Mclear for a score and Mclear finding Goodnough for his second of the game.
- Midway through the fourth quarter Mesler tallied his second goal of the game which gave him 119 career goals breaking the previous park of 118 held by Josh Yelvington '19.
- Guerriero added a late unassisted marker for the 14-9 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mclear led the Roos with three goals and one assist, while Goodnough and Mesler scored twice each. Guerriero added a goal and assist. Rory McCabe picked up a team-high eight ground balls and tied a game-high with two caused turnovers.
- Ryan Considine paced Utica with three goals and three assists, Ryan Hollenbeck scored four times and Noah Erickson added three goals. Cade Bourcy won 13 of 21 faceoffs for the Pioneers.
- Patrick Oswald made five saves over the first 44 minutes for Utica, while Jake Bowen and Owen Mix split time over the final 16 minutes combining for five saves.
- Hayden Todd turned aside eight shots in the loss for Canton.
- Utica had a slim 22-19 advantage in shots on goal while controlling ground balls (35-23) and faceoffs (15-11).
