McRobbie-Taru Leads Roos on the Road at Fredonia

Fredonia, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Roos but the SUNY Canton women's basketball team fell 59-51 in a SUNYAC road game at Fredonia on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Neither team led by more than four in the opening quarter as Canton held a 15-13 advantage after 10 minutes of action.
  • The Roos extended their lead to five after a Sierra Pabo jumper, but the Devils ended the half on a 6-2 run to take a 30-28 lead into intermission.
  • McRobbie-Taru led the Roos with 14 first-half points while Pabo had seven.
  • Fredonia used an 8-0 run out of intermission to open a 38-28 lead. Canton responded with a 9-0 run to get within one after a Pabo jumper. The hosts led 46-40 after three quarters.
  • Fredonia scored five of the first eight points of the fourth quarter to open a 51-43 lead. Canton got back-to-back buckets from McRobbie-Taru and Natalie Bartle to get within 51-47 but the Devils hung on for the 59-51 win
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • McRobbie-Taru led all players with 20 points and added nine rebounds on 10-for-16 shooting. Pabo tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Bartle finished with nine points, 16 rebounds and five assists.  
  • Grace Alexander was the lone scorer in double figures for Fredonia with 13, while Mary Culeton added nine points and nine rebounds.
  • The Roos shot just 32% from the field, 13% from three and 14% from the line, while Fredonia finished with marks of 33%, 16% and 63%.
  • The Blue Devils had an edge in bench points (21-7), fast break points (15-7) and points off turnovers (17-11).

The Roos are back in action on Friday when they host SUNY Potsdam at 5:30 p.m.
