Jonney Mclear scored two goals each but the Roos were unable to overcome an early deficit in a 20-6 road loss at Brockport in the season opener for both teams on Monday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brockport jumped out to an early lead scoring five first quarter goals, three from the stick of Nate Askin.
- The Golden Eagles scored eight more goals over the first 11 minutes of the second stanza to open a 13-0 advantage.
- Mclear got the Roos on the board with 1:13 left in the opening half as the hosts took a 13-1 lead into intermission.
- Newcomb and Mclear scored third quarter goals for the Roos with Newcomb's coming on the man advantage off a pass from Caeden Goodnough. Brockport led 19-3 after three quarters.
- Onwaiewate Lazore found Charles Grandaw for his first goal of the season midway through the fourth frame. Goodnough and Newcomb scored man-up goals in the quarter off assists from Devin Guerriero and Holden Hewlett, respectively, with the game ending in a 20-6 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Goodnough, Mclear and Newcomb paced Canton with two points each, while Mclear led the Roos with six shots on goal. Hewlett tied a game-high with three caused turnovers and Dylan Munk and Hayden Todd picked up two ground balls each.
- Askin led Brockport with seven goals and two assists, while Pierson Jacobs tallied four goals and one assist. Nicolas Ange led the Eagles with six ground balls, while Tim Hubbard caused three turnovers.
- Jack Acker made eight saves allowing three goals over the first three quarters to earn the win for Brockport, while Jared Kulik made one save surrendering three scores in the fourth quarter.
- Todd made 11 saves allowing 13 goals in the first half taking the loss, while Sam Servati turned aside six shots allowing seven goals in the second half.
- Brockport controlled shots (56-27), shots on goal (37-15), ground balls (26-10) and faceoffs (18-9). The Eagles were 4-for-6 on extra man opportunities and 21-for-22 on clears, while the Roos were 3-for-8 and 10-for-18, respectively. Â
