First Half Double Digit Lead Carries Roos to SUNYAC Win vs. Bengals

Canton, NY – Sierra Pabo scored a game-high 18 points and Hope Aniceto, Natalie Bartle and Chelsie Tyler all scored in double figures as the Roos used a strong first half to earn a 71-53 SUNYAC win against Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos led by as many as eight in the opening quarter and took a 16-10 lead after 10 minutes of action.
  • Buffalo State scored the first bucket of the second quarter before the Roos went on a 9-0 run with four different players scoring in the spurt to extend the lead to 25-12.
  • The Bengals got within eight after a pair of baskets, but the Roos ended the half scoring the final five points of the half including Aniceto draining a three and getting fouled with less than a second left in the half from the far corner. Canton led 34-19 at intermission.
  • Pabo led the Roos with 14 first-half points, while Aniceto had nine and Tyler tallied seven. Maddy Stearns paced the Bengals with eight points and 11 rebounds.
  • The closest the Bengals would get in the second half was 10 as they were never able to trim their deficit to single digits in a convincing Canton win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Pabo led all players with 18 points and added six rebounds and five assists on 7-for-14 shooting. Aniceto tallied 14 points hitting four three-pointers for the second consecutive game. Bartle registered 10 points and a game-high six assists, while Tyler added 10 points in 14 minutes. Kat McRobbie-Taru was just a point and rebound short of a double-double with nine points and nine boards.
  • Adiya Jones (15 points, 11 rebounds) and Stearns (13 points, 12 rebounds) both had double-doubles for the Bengals.
  • Canton shot 44% from the field and 32% from three-point range compared to marks of 35% and 21% for Buffalo State.  
  • The Roos had the upper hand in fast break points (19-11), points off turnovers (26-19), points in the paint (32-16) and bench points (18-12).

The Roos return to SUNYAC action on Tuesday when they visit Oneonta at 5:30 p.m.
