McRobbie-Taru Leads Roos in Road Tilt at New Paltz

New Paltz, NY – Kat McRobbie-Taru led the Roos with nine points and eight rebounds but host SUNY New Paltz earned a 74-37 SUNYAC win against the SUNY Canton women's basketball team on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Canton jumped out to an early 6-1 lead but host New Paltz closed the final 5:48 of the opening quarter on a 19-2 run to take a 20-8 lead after 10 minutes.
  • Hope Aniceto buried a three-pointer to start the second stanza getting the Roos within nine, but that was as close as they would get in the quarter as the Hawks extended their lead to 37-18 at intermission.
  • McRobbie-Taru led Canton with seven first-half points, while Hannah Vanderzee paced New Paltz with 11 points.
  • The Hawks continued to control play in the second half outscoring the Roos 37-19 after halftime en route to the convincing win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • McRobbie-Taru led the Roos in both points (9) and rebounds (8), while Abigail Rice chipped in six points and three rebounds. Sierra Pabo added five points, three rebounds and two steals, while Natalie Bartle finished with four points, seven rebounds and two steals.
  • Vanderzee paced New Paltz with 15 points, eight rebounds and a game-high five steals. Abby Korzekwinski and Madison Mullman added 10 points each with Korzekwinski hauling down seven boards and recording four steals.
  • The Hawks controlled rebounds (42-29), points in the paint (44-22), bench points (30-10), points off turnovers (23-5) and second chance points (21-4).
  • The Roos scored a season-low 37 points and turned the ball over a season-high 27 times.
