Nappi Scores Career-High Five Goals as Roos Cruise Past Mariners

Canton, NY – Caroline Nappi scored a career-high five goals and Samantha Dayter and Lindsey Wunder combined for 15 points as the Roos cruised to a 20-5 NAC win against Maine Maritime on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos got off to a quick start scoring three goals from Wunder, Dayter and Maddy Caron over the first three plus minutes forcing a Mariners time out.
  • Canton extended its lead to 4-0 with a Nappi goal as Maine Maritime did not possess the ball until four minutes and 40 seconds into the contest after a save from Ella Bowes.
  • Aubrey Mitchell got the Mariners on the board midway through the quarter as Canton led 7-2 after one.
  • The Roos netted the first four goals of the second quarter to extend their lead to 11-2 midway through the stanza and took a 12-3 lead into intermission.
  • Canton dominated play in the third quarter outscoring the Mariners 6-0 behind two goals each from Nappi and Wunder. Play was even at two apiece over the final 15 minutes as plenty of Roo reserves saw time and they cruised to the convincing win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Nappi led all players with a career-high five goals, while Dayter tallied a game-best eight points and four assists to go with four goals. Wunder finished with four goals and three assists, while Caron scored three goals and picked up a game-high 11 draw controls. Morgan Montgomery dished out a pair of assists and Sydney Dunn, Molly Sweeney, Abbey Albro and Aayliah White scored one each. White also recorded game-highs of four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Mitchell led MMA with three goals, while Lillian Diversi scored twice and Hazel Stoddard dished out three assists.
  • Canton controlled shots on goal (32-8), draw controls (20-8) and ground balls (14-6). The Roos were 13-for-17 on clears, while the Mariners were 10-for-13.

The Roos are back in NAC action on Sunday when they host Husson University at 11 a.m.
