Goodnough, Mesler & Jacobs Combine for 19 Points in Road Win at Thomas

Waterville, ME – Caeden Goodnough, Austin Mesler and Alex Jacobs combined for 19 points as the men's lacrosse team picked up a 17-10 NAC road win at Thomas on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the hosts took an early lead three minutes in Canton scored three straight goals, two from Mesler and the other from Goodnough, to take a 3-1 lead. The Terriers responded with the final two goals of the quarter as the teams were knotted at three apiece after 15 minutes of action.
  • Thomas outscored the Roos 2-1 in a low scoring second stanza as Canton's lone tally came from Jacobs with a man advantage. The Terriers led 5-4 at intermission.
  • The Roos dominated play after the halftime break outscoring Thomas 5-2 in the third quarter and 8-3 in the fourth for the convincing win. Four different players tallied in the third quarter including two from Michael Newcomb.
  • From the end of the third quarter to midway through the fourth Canton rattled off six straight scores to build a convincing 14-7 lead en route to the 17-10 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Goodnough led all players with eight points and five assists to go with three goals. Mesler finished with four goals, two assists and five ground balls, while Jacobs recorded four goals and an assist. Tanner Amell and Newcomb chipped in two goals and one assist each, while Jake Erskine and Carter Pooler registered a goal and assist each. Devin Guerriero led Canton with six ground balls and 13 faceoff wins.  
  • Timothy Worster paced Thomas with five goals, while Jack Morrill and Kyle Van Doren-Crook posted two each.
  • Canton had the edge in shots on goal, 26-23. Hayden Todd made 13 saves in the win, while Daniel Guarino turned aside nine shots allowing the first 16 goals in the loss.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in NAC action on Sunday when they square off with MCLA at Williams College at 1 p.m.
