Four Roos Net Career Firsts as Canton Cruises Past Lyndon

Canton, NY – Jaedyn Awan, Abbey Albro, Molly Sweeney and Ali Servati all scored their first career goals as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team opened North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play with a dominant 20-1 win against visiting VTSU Lyndon in rainy conditions on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to a quick start as Maddy Caron fed Samantha Dayter for a goal just 32 seconds in. Six different Canton players scored in the opening quarter as the hosts led 8-0 after one.
  • Canton received goals from six different players in the second as Awan capped the quarter scoring a man-up goal just before halftime as the Roos led 14-0 at intermission.
  • The hosts outscored Lyndon 3-0 in the third quarter and ran off three more goals in the fourth to up their consecutive goal streak to 20 before Kiara Mack got the Hornets on the board as time expired for the 20-1 final.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayter led the Roos with three goals, four assists, three caused turnovers and three draw controls, while Caron tallied two goals, four assists and nine draws. Morgan Montgomery totaled three goals and one assist and Lindsey Wunder finished with two goals and one assist. Sweeney scored her first career goal and dished out two assists, while Albro also found the back of the net for the first time and had an assist.
  • Hannah Reed and Caroline Nappi supplied a goal and assist each, while Awan and Servati recorded career firsts in the scoring column. Aayliah White, Scarlet Ditoro and Ava Reynolds finished with Canton's other goals. Awan stuffed the stat sheet with three ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draws. Caron, Dayter and White all forced three turnovers apiece with Wunder picking up a game-best five ground balls and Sydney Dunn adding four.
  • Olivia Scott made one save while shutting out the Hornets in the first half for the win, while Erin Anderson stopped one of the two shots she faced in the second half.
  • Bridget Denio made six saves surrendering 14 goals in the first half for Lyndon, while Alyssa Gerrish recorded three saves allowing six goals in the second.
  • The Roos dominated shots on goal (29-3), ground balls (31-8) and draw controls (18-5). Canton went 6-for-7 on clears while Lyndon was 3-for-23.

The Roos are back in NAC action on Saturday when they host Maine Maritime at 12 p.m.
