Morrisville, NY – Austin Mesler and
Caeden Goodnough combined for 10 goals and five assists but a late comeback bid from the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell just short in a showdown between two of the top teams in the NAC on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams exchanged goals midway through the first half as Mesler found Goodnough for his 21st goal of the season. Carter Pooler scored with the man advantage to even things at two with 5:27 left in the first. Mesler scored a pair of first quarter goals as the Mustangs led 6-4 after one.
- Goodnough got Canton within one to start the second, but the hosts took control of the game with four straight scores to lead 10-5 at intermission.
- Morrisville extended the lead to 11-5 early in the third and led 13-7 after 45 minutes of action.
- Canton caged four of the first five goals in the fourth quarter to get within 14-11 with 9:02 remaining after Tanner Amell's 19th tally of the season.
- The Mustangs added an insurance goal with just over four minutes remaining and hung on for the 15-12 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Mesler led all players with 10 points and six goals to go with four assists. Goodnough recorded five points on four goals and an assist. Amell and Pooler also scored for Canton while Devin Guerriero, Holden Hewlett and Sean Hornung registered assists. Guerriero won 16 of his 30 faceoffs and Rory McCabe picked up a team-high five ground balls.
- Zach Nestor paced Morrisville with two goals and six assists. Dante Patriarco scored four goals and Kyan Dohn and Chris Stancarone had three each.
- Nathan Weise made eight saves in the win for the Mustangs, while Hayden Todd stopped seven shots in defeat.
