Dayter Sets Program Goals Record in Win vs. Potsdam

Canton, NY – Senior Samantha Dayter broke the program's all-time goals record as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team earned a 15-11 win against visiting SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening.

Dayter's first goal of the game came just 52 seconds into the contest and was her 184th career tally breaking the previous mark of 183 held by Robyn Carroll '16.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Dayter scored the first two goals of the game to get the Roos out to a 2-0 lead less than three minutes in. The Bears responded with back-to-back markers with the game knotted at two apiece midway through the opening quarter.
  • From there the Roos seized the momentum scoring six straight goals with four from Maddy Caron and the other two from Lindsey Wunder and Dayter. Canton led 8-2 with 8:22 left in the second stanza after holding a 5-2 lead after the first quarter.
  • Potsdam scored the last goal of the half and the first three goals of the third quarter to get within 8-6 with 6:06 left in the third.
  • Morgan Montgomery broke the Bears streak caging her 11th goal of the season off the feed from Dayter with 52 seconds left in the third. The hosts led 9-6 after three.
  • The Roos tallied the first three goals of the fourth quarter with two from Dayter and the other from Caron as they looked to have put the game away up 12-6 with 10:39 remaining.
  • Potsdam rallied scoring the next four goals with a pair from Anita Reitano to get within 12-10 with 6:21 remaining.
  • In a back-and-forth battle the Roos responded once again as Dayter netted her sixth and seventh goals of the game with Sydney Dunn putting home her first of the evening and eighth of the season as Canton staved off the Bears.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Dayter led all players with nine points, seven goals, two assists and three caused turnovers to go with three draw controls. She now has 190 career goals and 338 career points, both program records.
  • Caron finished with five goals and game-highs of seven draw controls and six ground balls. Wunder chipped in a goal and assist and Dunn and Montgomery scored once each.
  • Reitano paced the Bears with four goals and two assists, while Tessa Pierce and Lindsey LaDue supplied two goals each.
  • Olivia Scott made six saves in the win while tying a game-high with six ground balls. Olivia Minarich turned aside nine shots in defeat.
  • The Roos held the upper hand in shots on goal (24-17) and ground balls (29-23), while the Bears had the edge in draw controls (16-14). Canton went 16-for-21 on clears, while Potsdam was 14-for-26.

The Roos are back in action on Saturday when they visit Maine Farmington at 1 p.m.
