Caron & Dayter Tally Five Points Each in Battle vs. Saints

Canton, NY – Maddy Caron and Samantha Dayter recorded five points each as the Roos led after the opening quarter, but strong second and fourth quarters carried host St. Lawrence to an 18-8 win on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Liz Evans got the Saints on the board first 10 minutes into the contest.
  • The Roos responded just 22 seconds later off the stick of Caron. Dayter scored her first of the day with the player advantage as Canton led 2-1 after 15 minutes of action.
  • The Saints controlled the second stanza netting seven straight goals before Dayter caged her second of the game with 3:09 left in the opening half. St. Lawrence led 8-3 at intermission.
  • The hosts scored the first three goals of the third to open an 11-3 advantage. Canton ran off three straight of their own with Caron scoring a pair and Ava Reynolds the other as the Roos were within 11-6. From there St. Lawrence scored six straight to seal the win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Caron led the Roos with four goals, an assist, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Dayter tallied three goals, two assists, six draw controls and two caused turnovers. With her three scores she now is tied for the career goals program record (183) with Robyn Carroll '16. Lindsey Wunder was solid in the midfield stuffing the stat sheet with three draws, three caused turnovers and two ground balls to go with an assist.
  • Morgan Arakelian paced St. Lawrence with three goals and six assists, while Evans scored five goals.
  • Courtney Lynn made five saves in the win for St. Lawrence. Olivia Scott turned aside nine shots over the first three quarters while Erin Anderson played the fourth quarter.
  • Canton had the advantage in draw controls, 17-11. St. Lawrence held the upper hand in shots on goal (27-13) and ground balls (31-14).

The Roos are back in action next Tuesday when they host SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m.
