Caeden Goodnough scored a goal and assist and sophomore
Hayden Todd made 18 saves, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team dropped a non-league contest 14-3 to Utica University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos scored first, with junior Tanner Amell putting the hosts up 1-0 just over five minutes into the contest. Utica scored three consecutive goals to close out the quarter up 3-1.
- Both teams played solid defensively in the second quarter and held each other scoreless until the final two minutes, with Utica potting two more scores to go up 5-1 at the half.Â
- The Pioneers scored two goals early in the third to extend their lead to six before senior Carter Pooler ripped a high shot to narrow the lead to 7-2.
- In the fourth quarter, Goodnough's goal was in between two, two-goal runs by Utica making the final 14-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Goodnough's goal and assist led the Roos. Pooler and Amell finished a goal each. Junior Austin Mesler and sophomore Michael Newcomb each earned an assist.
- Junior Devin Guerriero was 10-20 at the faceoff x. Junior Parker Hornung had three caused turnovers, while sophomore Rilee St. Croix and Todd led Canton with six ground balls each.
- Utica held the upper hand in shots on goal (32-13) while the Roos had the edge on ground balls (34-30). The Pioneers went 18-for-19 on clears, while the Roos were 13-for-24. Utica was 2-9 on the extra man, Canton was 0-5.
- Todd made 18 saves, taking the loss. Patrick Oswald made eight saves in the win for the Pioneers with Jake Bowen making two in relief.
