Marshall & Hess Finish Top 10 at St. Lawrence with Strong Final Rounds

Roos Shoot Second Lowest Team Score on Day 2

Canton, NY – Seniors Josh Marshall and Jake Hess both had tremendous final rounds as the duo finished in fifth and ninth places, respectively, at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Sunday at Appleton Golf Course.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Marshall followed up his 75 on Saturday with a 2-over par, 74, on Sunday to finish in a four-way tie for fifth place at 149 (+5) for the tournament.
  • Hess, who shot a 78 on Saturday, tied for the third lowest round on the course on Sunday with an even-par, 72. His two-day total of 150 put him alone in ninth place on the leaderboard (+6).
  • Marshall and Hess tied for second in the field in par 3 scoring (3.13), while Marshall ranked tied for second in par 5 scoring (4.50). Marshall was also one of just four golfers on the weekend to record an eagle. 
  • The rest of SUNY Canton's team also had impressive outings on Sunday. Sam Martin improved his score from Saturday by eight strokes on Sunday shooting a 78 to finish with a two-day total of 164 (+20) as he tied for 31st place.
  • Gavin Neuland equaled his round of 82 from Saturday on Sunday as he also tied for 31st at 164. Brendan Kanoza improved by five strokes in the final round to shoot a 165 (+21) finishing in 33rd.
  • SUNY Canton combined for a remarkable team score of 304, which was the second lowest of the day behind the tournament winners from New York University (281). The Violets finished the weekend with 573 strokes finishing well ahead of St. Lawrence's 'A' team (613).
  • Clarkson took third (619), followed by St. Lawrence 'B' (621) and SUNY Canton (624). The Saints 'C' team finished in sixth at 629.
  • NYU's Jorge Montero captured medalist honors carding a remarkable two-day total of 137 (-7).
   
WHAT'S NEXT
The Roos are back in action on Tuesday when they make the short trip to take part in the Clarkson Invitational at Potsdam Town & Country Club. Tee times are set for 1 p.m.
