Stowe, VT – Josh Marshall,
Gavin Neuland and
Sam Martin led the SUNY Canton men's golf team as the trio all finished in the top six individually as the Roos opened their season on Wednesday at Stowe Country Club.
Marshall carded a round of 75 going out in 39 before coming home in even par 36 to finish alone in second place. The senior captain led the field in both pars (13) and par 3 scoring averaging 3.20 strokes per hole, while ranking second in par 4 scoring (4.00).
Neuland went out in 41 before coming home in 39 to finish alone in fifth place with an 80. He tied for the third most birdies on the day recording two along with teammate
Brendan Kanoza (86). The Oswego native also finished tied for third in par 4 scoring (4.25).
Martin finished with a 43 on the front nine before improving by four strokes on the back to shoot an 82 tying for sixth place. He finished in a tie for second in the field in par 3 scoring (3.40).
Jake Hess finished up alone in eighth with an 83 (42-41).
Bailey Conklin (42-42) and
Jake Mayette (43-41) both tied for ninth with rounds of 84. The senior from Madrid ranked second on the day in par 5 scoring (4.80).

Castleton and Gordon tied for first place in the team event with 326 strokes, while SUNY Canton's "A" team was three strokes back at 329. The Roos "B" team finished with a score of 330.
Castleton's Nick Ojala earned medalist honors shooting an even par, 72.

The men's golf team is scheduled to tee it up on Saturday for the opening round of the St. Lawrence Invitational at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course. Â Â
