Women’s Hockey Off to Best Start in Program History; Roos Rank Second Nationally in Goals Per Game

Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's hockey team is off to its best start in program history at 5-0-1 through six games this season. The Roos are one of just 10 teams in Division III who remain unbeaten.

The Roos rank tied for second in the nation in goals per game with Utica College (6.00) trailing only Nazareth College (6.50). SUNY Canton is also top 10 in the nation in scoring margin (3rd – 4.67), scoring defense (7th – 0.33), team points (8th – 93), total goals (8th – 36), assists (8th – 57) and winning percentage (9th – 0.917).

Individually, Micayla MacIntyre ranks sixth in points per game (2.00), while Iida Laitinen is sixth in goals per game (1.17). Desiree Snook is tied for ninth with one shorthanded goal, while MacIntyre and Sarah Kosnaskie rank tied for 12th in assists per game (1.17). Laitinen sits 11th in points per game (1.83), while Kosnaskie comes in at 17th (1.67). Gracyn Emmerton and MacIntyre are tied for 18th nationally with two power play goals apiece.

In goal, Sirena Alvarez ranks 13th in shutouts (2) and 19th in goals against average (1.32).

Verity Lewis's eight points against King's College on October 31st are currently the highest point total for any player in a Division III game this season. Her five assists in the same contest also ties the best single-game mark in D-III this season. SUNY Canton's 14 goals scored v. the Monarchs that day are also a season-best across D-III.  Meanwhile, Iida Laitinen's four scores v. King's that day ties the best mark of any student-athlete in a game this season.
