THE BASICS
- Result: SUNY Canton 1, #3/2 Nazareth 1 (OT)
- Location: Terry Martin Arena – Canton, NY
- Records: SUNY Canton (0-0-1) | Nazareth (0-0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team was able to find the back of the net through the opening 20 minutes with the visiting Golden Flyers holding an 11-5 shots on goal advantage. SUNY Canton killed off their lone penalty while Nazareth killed off two of their own.
- The Roos struck first on the scoreboard at 13:40 of the middle period. Kylah Small picked the puck up behind goal and found Anna Pavlasova at the right circle. Pavlasova fired a shot toward goal that was turned aside by Nazareth goaltender Mia Gonsalves, but the rebound went right to Stoll who buried the shot near post past the glove of Gonsalves.
- Shots were much closer in the second stanza with the Golden Flyers holding a slim 13-12 advantage, but the Roos skated to second intermission with a 1-0 lead behind 24 saves over the first two periods from Lenihan.
- Lenihan stopped the first 12 shots she faced in the third period before the Golden Flyers were finally able to solve the netminder. An Allie Zack shot flipped in high near the blue line took a bit of a flukey bounce making its way into goal to knot things up at one apiece.
- Lenihan bounced right back stopping the final three shots of regulation and all five shots she faced in overtime.
- Both teams had some quality chances in 3-on-3 OT as Maya Fanelli, Riley Andzel and Isabella Paswaters all had shots on goal in the extra session, but ultimately the teams would end in a hard fought tie.
