Lenihan Stops 27 as Roos Face #13/14 Elmira

Canton, NY – Senior Molly Lenihan made 27 saves and the SUNY Canton women's hockey team stayed close to a ranked opponent for the second day in a row, but the Roos dropped a 2-0 decision to Elmira College on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
  • Result: #13/14 Elmira 2, SUNY Canton 0
  • Location: Terry Martin Arena – Canton, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (0-1-1) | Elmira (2-0-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first period, Elmira's Mo McBride cashed in, tucking in her own rebound past Lenihan who made the initial stop.  The goal was scored at 6:40 of the second period and was assisted by Georgia MacInnis.
  • McBride kept the momentum in the Soaring Eagles direction in the third, making a nifty move in the slot to beat a defender and snapping a shot off the right post and into the net to put Elmira up 2-0.
  • The Roos pulled Lenihan with a little more than two minutes remaining to gain the extra skater and created a few scoring opportunities but could not solve goaltender Olivia Last.
