HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Canton got off to a great start building a 3-0 lead after the opening period. Hamilton attempted to clear the puck from their defensive zone but Roger Powers picked up the puck just inside the blue line at the near boards and fired a quick pass to Headland in the slot. He deked the goalie and put home a backhand past Continental net minder Anthony Tirabassi just 90 seconds into the contest for the 1-0 lead.
- The Roos doubled their lead midway through the period. Connor Tuttle fired the puck toward net that redirected off the stick of Jake Mayette out front. AJ D'Orazio collected the loose puck behind the Hamilton net and found Farabee out in front who buried his shot off the Continental goalie and in for the 2-0 lead.
- The hosts extended the lead to three with 1:04 left in the opening period. Kyler Matthews hit Brendan McCormack with a breakout pass through the neutral zone. He skated into the offensive zone finding Headland to his right as he beat a defender and sprawled out Tirabassi finishing his second of the night and fourth of the season.
- SUNY Canton made it 4-0 just 18 seconds into a power play at 16:31 of the second. Max Routledge swung the puck left to right to Kyler Matthews. He drew a defenseman and hit Sean David to his right. David fed Farabee below the right circle who put home his second of the night and sixth of the season.
- Hamilton got on the board just less than two minutes later on Nick Ursitti's third of the season. The Continentals drew within two at 1:57 of the third as Sterling Bray found the back of the net off passes from Bennett Morrison and Nick Rutigliano.
- Hamilton pulled Tirabassi for the extra attacker with 4:06 remaining and that paid off with 1:53 remaining when Nick Hawkins won the puck in a five-man scrum at the far boards to Ursitti. He found Jordi Jefferson at the right circle who took a slapshot past Austin Washkurak to get the visitors within one.
- Following a faceoff win the Continentals pulled Tirabassi once again but Washkurak stopped one more shot to preserve the win.
- Special teams proved big as the Roos went 1-for-2 on the power play and killed all four of their penalties.
- Washkurak made 25 saves in his first win of the season, while Tirabassi made 25 stops in the loss.
