Canton, NY – Marissa Ixtlahuac,
Shea Norton and
Camryn Smeatin all posted career-highs in kills as the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team swept a pair of matches against Maine Fort Kent and SUNY Potsdam on Sunday closing out play in the Roos Classic.
The Roos (8-17) earned a 3-1 win (25-13, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16) in the opener against Maine Fort Kent (20-4) before coming back from two sets down to defeat SUNY Potsdam (11-12) 3-2 (23-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12) in the nightcap.
Match 1 – Box Score
SUNY Canton jumped out to a 16-11 lead crusing to a 25-13 first set win. The second and third sets were much closer with the Roos prevailing 25-22 in the second. The hosts held match point at 24-22 in the third but four straight points earned the Bengals the third frame, 26-24. Canton bounced back nicely for a 25-16 win to seal the match in the fourth set.

Marissa Ixtlahuac (16) and
Camryn Smeatin all recorded career-highs in kills, while
Melissa McMaster also posted double digit kills (10).
Peyton Robinson set up the offense with 49 assists and was equally as impressive with 19 digs.
Jenna Roat was a force defensively with 19 digs.
Match 2 – Box Score
Both teams came out strong in a highly competitive first set as the Bears pulled away late for a 25-23 first set win. The Bears jumped out to a 22-15 lead in the second set leading to a 25-17 win in the second set.
Trailing 23-20 in the third set the Roos scored five straight points on a pair of Norton kills, a McMaster block, a Hansen kill and another point from McMaster on a kill. The Roos used the momentum they established at the end of the third set to jump out to an 18-11 lead in the fourth set and staved off a Potsdam comeback, 25-21.
Canton jumped out to an 8-2 lead but saw its lead cut to just one. Howeveer, the Roos responded with two straight points to close out the match, 15-12.
McMaster led all players with 15 kills and added four blocks, while
Shea Norton totaled 12 kills, six blocks and six digs. Robinson assisted 41 kills to go with her 22 digs, while Roat (22) and
Sydney Uthe (13) also added double digit digs. Roat was also strong from the service line with four aces.
Roos Reach Milestones
Three Roos reached career milestones within the last week as
Jenna Roat recorded her 1,000th career dig on October 7th,
Peyton Robinson tallied her 3,000th career assist on October 14th and
Shea Norton posted her 500th career kill on October 14th.
The women's volleyball team is back in action next Sunday when it takes part in the Keuka College Tri-Match. The Roos take on the University of Rochester and Keuka at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively.
