Darling Notches 100th Hit In Twinbill Against D'Youville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (West Seneca, N.Y.) – Senior Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) notched the 100th hit of his career, helping the SUNY Canton baseball team split with D'Youville College on Sunday. The Roos won game one 19-1 and lost the nightcap 3-2.

The Roos, 12-21, have won six out of their last nine games and scored their most runs in a game on Sunday in the past two seasons.

Darling entered the doubleheader with 98 career hits. He stroked No. 99 with a two-run double in the top of the first, and then became the first SUNY Canton player to reach the 100-hit milestone with an RBI-single in the top of the fifth. The Oswego native finished 2-for-3 with two runs.

Two other SUNY Canton seniors played a major role in Sunday's win.   Zach Rosenthal (Miami, Fla.), fresh off a terrific save against Hamilton College on April 25, struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits in an outstanding complete game performance, and Gerardo Torres (Theresa, N.Y.) belted his first home run of the year and eighth in two years at SUNY Canton with a grand slam in a 12-run third inning.

Junior Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) doubled and scored four times.  Freshman Eddy Morel (Lake Worth, Fla.) also doubled and drove in two runs, and freshman Greg Dobies (Schenectady, N.Y.) added three singles.

Matt Wendling and Anthony Oliveri doubled to lead D'Youville.

In the second game, the Roos scored one run in the fifth and sixth innings to pull within one, and put the tying run at second in the top of the seventh, but the Spartans got a force out at second to end the game.

Senior Michael Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in game two, and Morel contributed two singles and a run.  Sophomore Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, N.Y.) had three strikeouts and allowed three hits in six innings.

Jay Senozetnik ripped a double and drove in a run to pace the Spartans.

The Roos hit the road to play at Plattsburgh State in a single game on Tuesday night, and then wrap up their season with a home doubleheader on Wednesday against Utica College starting at 3 p.m.
