Roos Suffer Loss to Farmingdale in Florida

Box Score (Lakeland, Fla.)- The SUNY Canton baseball team suffered a 16-1 loss to Farmingdale State College Monday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park Field #1 in Lakeland, Fla.

The Roos (0-4) were held to five singles by the Rams, who were ranked 25th in the D3baseball.com Top 25 preseason poll.

Junior Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 and drove in the Roos lone run in the top of the second inning.  Freshman Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) singled to start the inning and then advanced to second when senior Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) reached first on a Farmingdale error.  Those two moved ahead another base after freshman Greg Dobies (Schenectady, N.Y.) successfully beat out a bunt to load the bases.  SUNY Canton's next batter, senior Mike Zelyez (Brasher Falls, N.Y.), grounded into a 1-2-3 double play that still left two runners aboard.  Hunneyman then plated Darling with a single, but Dobies was tagged out at third to end the inning.

Senior Gerardo Torres (Theresa, N.Y.) also singled for SUNY Canton, who will next face Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 2:30 p.m. on Lake Myrtle Park Field #3.  Sophomore Travis Legacy (Malone, N.Y.) struck out four batters in 4 1/3 innings on the mound.
