Potsdam, NY – Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) found the back of the net for the fifth time this season but the women's hockey team could not overcome a three-goal deficit falling, 4-1, to host SUNY Potsdam Tuesday evening at Maxcy Ice Arena. The win improves the Bears to 4-3-2, while the loss drops the Roos to 4-3-2.
The hosts got on the board first midway through the first period when Jordan Ott collected a pass from Alyssa Brockmann in the slot and beat Roo goaltender
Shayna Dominique (Mistissini, QUE) top shelf glove side for the early 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later Amanda Lucky put a one-timer past Dominique's blocker for the score to give the Bears a two-goal lead. Rachel Grefke and Sally Mooney tallied assists on the score. Potsdam held a 14-9 shots on goal edge in the opening stanza.
At the 5:38 mark of the second period Ott added her second tally of the game, this time off a pass from Amanda Peterson as the hosts took control of the contest with a 3-0 lead. Potsdam held a slight 12-8 shots advantage in the second period.
The Roos got on the scoreboard 6:08 into the third frame when
Jessica Kistabish (Pikogan, QUE) found Cree in the slot who beat Bear net minder Alexane Rodrigue for her team-leading fifth score of the season.
Abbey Diabo (Kahnawake, QUE) also earned an assist on the play. With 4:40 remaining in the contest Jenn Crawford netted her first score of the game off passes from Izzy Fayerman and Peterson for the 4-1 final.
Dominique finished with 36 saves in goal for the Roos, while Rodrigue turned aside 24 shots on the evening. Both teams were unable to convert on their power play chances in a game that saw just three total penalties.
The women's hockey team returns to the ice this weekend when it travels for back-to-back road contests against Oswego State.
