(Colchester, Vt.)-The SUNY Canton men's baseball team lost a close 5-4 decision in game one against St. Michael's College Wednesday afternoon in Colchester, Vt. and then tied the Purple Knights 2-2 when the second game was called due to darkness. The Roos moved to 0-11-1 overall.
In the first game SUNY Canton fell beind 2-0 after the first inning but rallied back with a four-run fourth inning.
Matthew Fallon (Pierrefonds, Quebec) stroked a two-run double in that inning and
Bryan Duval (Norfolk, N.Y.) and
Josh Harvey (North Creek, N.Y.)also drove in a run in the fourth.
St. Michael's answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs thanks to a two-run double from Tim Pilczak.
The Purple Knights increased their lead 6-4 with another run in the fifth inning. The Roos trimmed the lead to one in the top of the sixth inning after
Adam Levy (Penfield, N.Y.) doubled and scored on a single from Fallon. Fallon advanced to second on a groundout and then stole third but was left stranded after St. Michael's got Duval to ground out to end the inning. The Purple Knights then recorded three straight outs in the seventh for the win.
Fallon finished 3-for-3, Levy and Duval each went 1-for-3 and and
Matt Myers (Brandon, Vt.) added a pair of singles.
Josh Hartle (Harrisville, N.Y.) went the distance on the mound for SUNY Canton striking out three batters and allowing seven hits and six walks in six innings.
Tim McDonnell went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run for St. Michael's. Chad Estey added a triple and Mike Robert and Rob McCarty combined to surrender 11 hits with four strikeouts.
Myers scored both runs for the Roos in game two. In the fourth inning Myers singled and eventually scored on an error and then in the sixth Myers singled again, advanced to third on Levy single, and then scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by
Jared Wallace (Canton, N.Y.).
St. Michael's had to rally twice to forge the tie with runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) added a triple for the Roos and Fallon scattered six hits and fanned seven batters in seven innings.
Matt Beaulieu ripped a double for the Purple Knights and Kevin Wickles allowed four hits and three walks with five strikeouts in seven innings.
