Canton, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team concluded this weekend's action with a 3-0 sweep over SUNY Poly. The Roos won three of their four matches across two days of action as part of the North Country Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos kicked off Saturday's first match with a 6-2 lead over the Badgers. Two points in a row for Johnson eased their deficit before an 8-1 run further extended the Roos advantage, including two consecutive kills from Viv Sieja. Down 14-5, the Badgers strung together three scores, followed by two more kills from Sieja and a kill from Clara Bond to make it a 17-8 lead for the Roos. Both squads then traded points as the scoreboard went on to read 21-15. The Roos tallied four of the next six points, closing out the first set with a kill from Abby Raven 25-17.
- The second stanza began with a 9-6 Canton lead over Johnson, with Tionna Edghill, Bond, and Emerson Coulter contributing to the scoreboard. The Badgers fought back to claim the next eight points, going up 14-9. A pair of kills from Sieja brought the Roos within three. Johnson countered with a three-point streak. Canton later took six straight, turning a 20-13 deficit into trailing by just a single point. The teams continued to battle back-and-forth with the Roos using three straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The Badgers, however, closed out the second stanza with three straight points 27-25.
- Canton led 14-10 midway through the third frame after a Raven kill before things got knotted up at 15 apiece. The Roos used a 6-1 stretch to open up a 21-16 advantage following a Coulter kill. Leading 22-19 the hosts tallied three of the final four points that included an ace from Madalena Balisciano and kills from Bond and Coulter to seal the third set 25-20.
- The fourth frame saw Johnson jump out to a 12-5 lead before Canton struck for five of the next six points to get within 13-10 after a kill from Edghill. The Badgers responded with five straight points to take control of the set and win the fourth 25-20 forcing a decisive fifth frame.
- The visitors jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the final set and opened a 13-5 advantage following a Sierra Reed kill. Canton battled back with three straight points to get within five but Johnson closed out the set and match 15-8.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Coulter and Raven led all players with 16 kills and four blocks each, while Coulter added 18 digs and five aces. Bond chipped in nine kills, while Madison Bigelow and Sieja added seven each. Olivia Tran (15), Rylan Walker (12) and Kaelyn Boliver (11) all recorded double digit digs. Balisciano and Boliver set up the offense with 25 and 20 assists, respectively.
- Haylee Hansen paced Johnson with 14 kills and nine digs, while Sepphyre Lepega-Telona and Tatum Kalahiki recorded 11 kills each.
- Both teams hit at nearly an identical clip with the Roos holding the slimmest advantage at .221-.220
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
- Neither team led by more than three in the opening set until Canton took a 19-15 lead following a Boliver ace. Poly battled back to tie it at 20 apiece and with the teams knotted at 24 all the Roos closed out the first set 26-24 behind two kills from Sieja.
- Canton jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second stanza and extended their lead to 20-12. The Wildcats responded with eight straight points to tie things at 20 apiece before five straight points from Canton earned them a 25-20 win following a Tran kill.
- The Roos were firing on all cylinders in the final set as they leapt to a 14-6 advantage after an ace from Boliver. Two consecutive kills from Emmi Veras brought Canton across the finish line as they made light work of the Wildcats, 25-13.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Sieja led the team with nine kills while adding four digs and an ace. The freshman outside hitter accumulated a .333 attack percentage against Poly.
- Raven contributed seven kills with two service aces while adding three digs defensively.
- Poly's Grace Southwick paced all players in assists with 25.
- Both Boliver and Balisciano tallied 14 assists each for Canton.
