Canton, NY – Eli Bullock had two goals and two helpers, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team fell just short to the SUNY Poly Wildcats by a score of 11-9 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two former NAC foes have had some tight, competitive games against each other in the previous few seasons, and today was no exception. Both sides were highly efficient in their opening possessions with Eystn Wylie breaking the ice 1:17 in.
- The Wildcats responded less than a minute later, then drew iron on a shot to nearly take the lead, but the Roos went up the field quickly with it and Bullock scored his first of the night on a transition shot with 10:57 left in the first period.
- After Poly made the game 2-2, scoring was hard to come by for several minutes, but with 26 seconds left, Michael Newcomb delivered and SUNY Canton took a 3-2 lead a quarter of the way through.
- Liam Waite had a clean faceoff win to begin the second quarter, leading to a goal by Brady Frost 19 seconds in as the Roos were now doubling Poly 4-2.
- However, this was the only time in the quarter SUNY Canton managed to score. Two Poly goals tied the contest at 4-4 at the end of the first half.
- The Wildcat's defensive efforts from the second quarter carried into the third as well, forcing the Roos into few shots and plenty of turnovers in their end of the field. Poly took the lead 2:33 into the third quarter, then cushioned that up to 7-4 with a goal at the with just under five minutes left in the period.
- Jonney Mclear got one to go for the first Roos goal in over 25 minutes of game time, but SUNY Canton still had work to do in the fourth quarter, down 8-5.
- The Roos got some momentum back with an early tally by Newcomb, then Mclear found the back of the net not one minute later and SUNY Canton trailed just 8-7 with just under 12 minutes left to play.
- The Wildcats went back up by three, but Bullock scored his second of the night and fifth of the season with 8:36 left to make it 10-8 in favor of the visitors.
- Late in the game, Poly started to take their time on possessions, eventually scoring their final goal of the night with 5:39 left.
- Nathan Taylor picked up a goal with 1:19 remaining, but the Roos lost the resulting faceoff and were unable to force a turnover late, falling by two goals at the paws of the Wildcats.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Bullock, Mclear, and Newcomb all registered two goals on the day. Bullock had the only two assists for the Roos and picked up three ground balls as well. Nathan Taylor and Ray Lopez Jr. each had five ground balls in the loss with Taylor also scoring his first career goal.
- Luke Taylor scored four goals for SUNY Poly as well as an logging an assist to lead both sides with five points. Graham Genevick picked up seven ground balls while Ryan Carroll and Kaiden Aton each caused three turnovers.
- The Wildcats won shots on goal (27-15), the turnover battle (24-15), and picked up plenty more groundballs (45-30).
- Hayden Todd had a nice afternoon in between the pipes for SUNY Canton, making 16 saves on 27 shots. Tyler Baisley had six saves on nine shots faced.

The Roos are off this weekend and return to action on Saturday, March 7 when they host SUNY Poly at 3 p.m.
