Colton Alexander and the SUNY Canton men's hockey team played a tightly contested game against SUNY Cortland on Friday night. Alexander tied the game midway through the third period, but the team ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Cortland's Morley Phillips got his team on the board just 43 seconds into the game, banking a shot off of junior Trey Miller from a sharp angle to give his team a 1-0 lead.
- The Red Dragon's had a 14-2 edge in shots in the first but Miller came up big to keep the Roos within striking distance.
- Canton responded in the second period, outshooting Cortland 17-11 but could not find the equalizer.
- In the third, Alexander evened the game up 1-1, tipping a pass from senior Evan Pringle past Nolan Suggs at 8:40 of the period.
- The Red Dragons would re-take the lead at 11:17 of the period with JC Humphreys snapping a shot from the slot and making the score 2-1.
- Canton would pull Miller with a minute remaining and had a quality chance in the waning moments but could not produce the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Roos are currently tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the SUNYAC standings with Fredonia and SUNY Potsdam.
- Alexander's goal was his sixth of the season and gives him 14 points in his first-year campaign.
- Both teams were 0/1 with the man advantage in the game.
- Canton had a slight edge at the faceoff dot (30-29). Pringle won 10 to lead the team.
- Senior Trystan Mughal led the team with two blocked shots and now has 11 blocks on the season.
- Miller made 31 saves for the Roos and Suggs stopped 29 for Cortland.
