Brielle Smith led the SUNY Canton men's and women's cross country teams at the Word of Life Huskies Invitational on Saturday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Beers paced the Canton men covering the 8-kilometer course in a time of 32:46 to finish in ninth place out of 39 runners. Justin Escudero was right on his heels crossing the line just five seconds later to place in the top 10.
- Justin Bormann (23rd – 36:10), Christopher Guyett (33rd – 41:20) and Calvin Branchaud (38th – 48:57) rounded out the Canton competitors.
- The Roos finished in fourth place out of four teams with 76 points just behind VTSU Randolph. Paul Smith's (41) edged out host Word of Life (42) for the team title.

- Smith covered the 6-kilometer course in 28:03 to finish in fourth place out of 23 runners. Isabella Bradley was the next Roo across the line finishing in 18th place (35:28).
- Kylie Rivera (19th – 39:02), Sophie Seitzer (20th – 39:57) and Sydney Pelerin (21st – 42:10) rounded out the Canton runners.
- Canton finished in third place out of three teams with 56 points. Albany Pharmacy (31) edged out Paul Smith's (33) for the team title.

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are off next weekend before returning to the course on Saturday (10/17) at the Cross Country Only Championships at Seneca Lake State Park. Women's and men's races are expected to start at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively.
