THE BASICS.
  • Result: SUNY Canton 3, Potsdam 0
  • Location: Stan Cohen Court – Canton, NY
  • Records:  SUNY Canton (13-5, 2-0 SUNYAC) | Potsdam (5-14, 0-2 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos roared out to a quick 5-0 lead early behind kills from Ava Buggs-Morehouse, Bond, Emerson Coulter and an ace from Ashlyn Boliver. Canton continued its early dominance, going up 9-1 following another kill from Coulter and held a 16-7 lead after another kill from Bond.
  • The Bears were able to get within five at 17-12, but that was as close as they would get as the Roos closed the set on an 8-2 run to earn a 25-14 first set victory.
  • Canton quickly stormed out to an 8-2 lead to kick off the second stanza. The Bears retaliated with a five-score streak, cutting their disadvantage to just one point. Both squads traded points as the scoreboard came out to a 13-13 deadlock.
  • Three consecutive scores gave the hosts some wiggle room before a pair of kills for Potsdam cut the Roos momentum. The teams remained neck-and-neck, leading up to a 20-20 tie before back-to-back kills from Sieja sparked a 5-1 run for SUNY Canton. The Roos sealed the win in set two, 25-21.
  • The deciding game began with the Roos atop the Bears, 9-3. Potsdam kept themselves within range, eventually facing a manageable 15-11 deficit at the midway point. A six-point run, including kills from Coulter and Abby Raven and an ace from Madalena Balisciano, gave Canton plenty of leeway as they approached the finish line.
  • The Bears clawed back with five scores of their own to make it a 21-16 contest. The Roos then took four of the final five points, including the match-sealing kill from Sieja.
