Reese Has 18-Point Night in Loss to Oswego

Oswego, NY – Sophomore Jahdeuir Reese has become more and more of a catalyst in the SUNY Canton men's basketball offense, scoring 18 points in his most recent outing as the Roos were defeated by the now 12-2 Oswego State Lakers 85-67 on Friday night on the road.

THE BASICS
  • Result: Oswego 85, SUNY Canton 67
  • Location: Max Ziel Gymnasium – Oswego, NY
  • Records: SUNY Canton (2-12, 1-6 SUNYAC) | Oswego (12-2, 6-1 SUNYAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was about as close as can get early on with neither team holding more than a one-possession lead through the first eight minutes. Bryon Streb had seven early points as the Roos were up 14-13 with 12:53 left to play.
  • Edram Gbekou made two free throws a little later to put SUNY Canton ahead 20-15 for either team's largest lead of the game with 9:33 remaining in the half.
  • Oswego battled back and had a slim edge for most of the rest of the half, leading 35-34 at the break.
  • Malaki Smith led the way with six points through the first 10 minutes of the second half, and the game was only within a few points, but the Roos hit a four-minute scoring drought and the Lakers took advantage to pull ahead 63-48.
  • The Roos did not get the necessary stops down the stretch to mount the comeback as Oswego's offense greatly improved after halftime, scoring 50 points in the second half as they went on to win 85-67.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Reese had 18 points for his highest total since scoring 22 against VTSU Lyndon back in November. The newcomer was also second on the team with six rebounds and added two assists as well.
  • Smith scored 10 points and grabbed four boards while Lateef Johnson Jr. had eight points, a team-high seven rebounds, and three blocks.
  • The Lakers were paced by Deacon Judd who scored a career-high 33 points including 11-for-13 from the line and pulling down 11 rebounds as well. Both Steven Bradley and Jayden Watkins were in double-figures also with 12 and 10 points.
  • Oswego's field goal percentage was 45% (29-64) while SUNY Canton's was 40% (21-53). Both teams struggled from the arc, going a combined 7-for-39. The Lakers rebounded the Roos (44-34), scored more in the paint (46-32), and had nearly double the assists (11-6).
