Delhi, NY – Freshman hitter
Isabella Cruz had a big day with 13 kills and 25 digs across two matches as the SUNY Canton volleyball team went 1-1 in the SUNY Delhi Tri-Match, sweeping the hosting SUNY Delhi Broncos, but dropping three straight to the Farmingdale State Rams Saturday in Delhi, N.Y.
The Roos started the Delhi match with a 25-13 victory, then won set two 25-17, and the final set 25-19. Farmingdale beat the Roos 25-19 in the first set, 25-15 in the second, and then won set three by the slimmest of margins 27-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED

MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos came ready to play early in set one. With three kills from Tionna Edghill and two from Emerson Coulter, the Roos commanded an early 12-4 lead in the first set.
- Even with SUNY Delhi going on an 4-0 run, the Roos never allowed the Broncos to score back-to-back points the rest of the set and SUNY Canton went on to win by a dozen 25-13 after earning six of the last seven points.
- Early service aces in set two by Coulter, Nadia Frigon, and Abby Raven helped the Roos get out ahead 11-5.
- The middle section of the set was closely contested, with the Roos holding between a six and an eight-point lead throughout.
- With SUNY Canton up 21-13, Delhi went on a 4-0 run to get within four late in the set.
- However, the Roos responded with kills from Cruz and Brooke Hite and along with two miscues from the Broncos, SUNY Canton came away with a 25-17 set victory.
- After an even 6-6 to begin set three, SUNY Canton started to pull away with 11 of the next 13 points to earn a 17-8 lead.
- Delhi though, did not go down quietly and used an extended run to get the game to 22-19 in favor of the Roos.
- Late in the last set, the Broncos committed a couple of attacking errors and then a kill from Cruz sealed the game at 25-19 as SUNY Canton swept Delhi on their own court for the first win of the 2025 campaign.

MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
- In an evenly matched first set with several ties and lead changes, neither squad led by more than three points early on, and an ace by Kiley Zacari made the game 15-15.
- The Rams scored five of the next six points, and although the Roos got the next two, Farmingdale went on another 5-1 run to take the first set 25-19.
- In set two, an early kill from Lauren Norman and two aces by Zicari gave SUNY Canton the first five points of the set.
- The Rams regrouped and took a 13-10 lead, before the Roos tied it up at 13.
- Farmingdale though went on a 7-0 run and SUNY Canton only scored two more times in the remainder of the set, falling 25-15.
- The Rams got out ahead 7-3 in the third set, but the Roos switch the lead into their favor 9-8 off a kill from Hite as part of a 4-0 run.
- Neither team was able to pull away the rest of the set with the game being within three points in the late stages.
- Two big kills from Cruz late gave SUNY Canton a 24-22 lead, but then Farmingdale went out ahead 25-24 taking the game into overtime.
- Cruz had another kill to tie it at 25, but the Rams ended the set and the game off two straight points, narrowly winning 27-25.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

- Cruz's 13 kills and 25 digs were both team highs. Raven was also in double figures in kills with 11 and had one block in each match.
- Frigon and Norman splitting the setting duties had 20 and 15 assists, respectively. Norman also had four service aces while Frigon had three.
- Coulter had seven kills and was right behind Cruz with 22 digs. Zicari had seven digs and a team-high four aces in game two against Farmingdale.
- In the win versus Delhi, outside of a 0-1 deficit in set three, the Roos never trailed at any point in the match.
