Canton, NY – Emerson Coulter had a monster day recording 35 kills and 38 digs to lead the SUNY Canton women's volleyball team to a split in a pair of matches against Hilbert and Cobleskill at the North Country Classic on Saturday.
The Hawks edged out Canton 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 17-25, 25-19, 15-10) in the opening match before the Roos swept the Fighting Tigers 3-0 (25-22, 28-26, 25-19) in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED
MATCH 1 – BOX SCORE
- The Roos doubled up the Hawks 8-4 early on following a Coulter ace. Hilbert battled back knotting the match at 11-11 and 15-15 before rattling off four straight points for a 19-16 lead. Canton got within 20-19 but the Hawks scored five of the final six points for the 25-20 opening set win.
- The hosts jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the second stanza following a Lauren Norman ace. The Hawks scored seven of the next nine points to open a 15-14 lead. With the visitors leading 23-21, the Roos hung tough scoring the final four points with three kills from Coulter to claim a 25-23 second set victory.
- Play was back-and-forth in the third set before the Roos took control with eight straight points, largely behind the service game of Daycee Bane, as they turned a 16-15 lead into a 24-15 lead en route to the 25-17 victory.
- Hilbert controlled the fourth frame jumping out to a 20-8 advantage before Canton rallied late to make it 22-16 after an Isabella Cruz kill. The Hawks would hang on for a 25-19 win in the fourth.
- The visitors got out to a 9-3 lead in the decisive fifth set as they secured the match with a 15-10 win in five.
- Coulter led all players with 18 kills hitting .333 (18-1-51) and added 26 digs to go with six service aces and three blocks. Her 18 kills, 26 digs and six aces were all career-highs. The 18 kills are the most since Tatum Lafrance had 19 against Plattsburgh (9/21/19).
- Cruz supplied nine kills and 15 digs, while Brooke Hite finished with eight kills. Abby Raven chipped in six kills and six total blocks with five digs. Norman dished out 23 assists to go with five digs, while Nadia Frigon assisted 15 kills and added six digs. Bane registered a team-best 35 digs.
- Jenna Revak led the Hawks with 17 kills and 10 digs, while Molly McKinnon (13 kills, 13 digs) and Lindsay Madigan (12 kills, 18 digs) also recorded double-doubles.
MATCH 2 – BOX SCORE
- The opening set of the nightcap was extremely tight in the first half of the frame before Canton got five straight points on the service game of Coulter. Raven registered a pair of kills, while Cruz and Tionna Edghill had one each along with an ace from Coulter to open an 18-13 lead.
- The Tigers were able to knot things at 19 apiece before Canton scored six of the final nine points as a Coulter kill gave the Roos the 25-22 first set victory.
- The visitors opened a 12-7 lead in the next set, but a 9-1 run at one point opened an 18-14 Canton advantage. With Cobleskill leading 25-24, Canton floored four of the final five points to earn the 28-26 second set win.
- The Roos roared out to leads of 5-0, 8-2 and 12-3 early in the third set. The Tigers would never get closer than three the rest of the way as a Brooke Hite kill finished off the match at 25-19.
- Coulter led all players with 17 kills and 12 digs hitting a remarkable .517 (17-2-29). Cruz and Raven tallied eight kills apiece with Cruz adding seven digs. Hite chipped in six kills while Norman (19) and Frigon (18) combined for 37 assists.
- Kathleen Smart paced Cobleskill with nine kills and nine digs, while Audrey Davis added seven kills.
- Canton hit at a season-best .252 clip as a team (45-17-111) compared to an .081 mark for the Tigers (27-19-99).
