Four Players Record Hits in Doubleheader vs. Fredonia

Oswego, NY – Four Roos recorded hits on the day as SUNY Canton nearly made a late-inning comeback in the nightcap but dropped a pair of SUNYAC games to Fredonia in a neutral site doubleheader at Oswego on Thursday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 - BOX SCORE
  • The Blue Devils came out swinging scoring four runs in the top of the first inning on six hits and an error.
  • The Blue Devils followed up an impressive first inning by scoring 11 runs during the second inning on 12 hits and another error.
  • Fredonia then added one more run in the top of the third inning making the score 16-0.
  • The Roos plated two runs in the bottom of the third inning having four runners reach base during the inning. Bella Betancur singled during the inning driving in Moore. Marissa Hawkins also scored in the frame.
  • Neither team added runs through the next two innings ending 16-2 after five innings in favor of the Blue Devils.
  • Betancur had a hit in the opener with Jordyn Tarbox registering a sacrifice.
  • Avery Hill, Madison Lowe, Allie Wandell and Kayla Lynn had two hits each for the Blue Devils combining to drive in 13 runs.
  • Kendall Phillips picked up the win allowing two runs with 10 strikeouts in five innings.
  • Ace Rogers took the loss surrendering 16 runs with a strikeout and walk in five innings.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Blue Devils once again started hot in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on five hits.
  • The Roos responded immediately in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs as senior Sarah Balcom and freshman Ava Hayes both crossed home on a single from Rogers.
  • Neither side registered a hit during the second and third innings as some stellar defense and pitching stifled both offenses.
  • The two teams remained deadlocked at 3-2 until the Blue Devils added one run in the top of the fifth inning. The visitors on the scoreboard added one run the top of the sixth inning to open a 5-2 lead after six innings.
  • The Roos rallied adding two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Moore tripled driving in Priscilla Soule and then later scored in the inning.
  • The Roos had the game-tying run on second base after executing a double steal to get the game within one, but Fredonia survived for the 5-4 win.
  • Balcom, Moore and Rogers recorded one hit each with Rogers driving in two runs and Moore one.
  • Wandell and Chloe Whittingham recorded two hits each with Whittingham driving in a pair of runs.
  • Sabrina Edwards-Smith picked up the win striking out 13 batters allowing two earned runs in seven innings.
  • Rogers took the loss allowing four earned runs with two walks in seven innings.

The Roos are scheduled to host Oswego in a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m.
