Moore Records Hit in Twinbill vs. Hawks

Canton, NY – Torie Moore legged out an infield single in the opener but visiting SUNY New Paltz used strong pitching to earn a SUNYAC doubleheader sweep against the SUNY Canton softball team on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • New Paltz got on the board first in the second inning scoring one unearned run on one hit and an error.
  • Torie Moore reached base on a bunt single in the third with two outs and stole second but the Roos were unable to bring the tying run across.
  • The Hawks scored one run in the fifth on an RBI ground out after a single with the runner moving all the way to third on a stolen base and wild pitch.
  • Ava Hayes drew a leadoff walk in Canton's at-bats in the fifth and moved to second on a Shae Arsenault sacrifice. Rylynn Martin-McIntyre was hit by a pitch with two outs, but the Roos stranded a pair of baserunners as New Paltz led 2-0 after five frames.
  • The Hawks added a pair of runs in the seventh on a two-run homer from Jackie Rometo.
  • Moore had the lone hit for the Roos breaking up the no-hitter in the second.
  • Seven players recorded one hit each for the Hawks.
  • Sydney Waldon improved to 7-7 on the season for New Paltz recording 17 strikeouts and two walks allowing just the one hit in seven innings.
  • Ace Rogers allowed three earned runs with two strikeouts and a walk in seven innings taking the loss.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Hawks got their bats going in the nightcap striking for 12 runs on 16 hits. Kelsey O'Brien got things going with a solo homer in the first inning.
  • New Paltz added three unearned runs on four hits and an error in the second inning. The Hawks added six runs on six hits and an error in the third.
  • The visitors completed the scoring with two runs on four hits in the fifth for the 12-0 final in five innings.
  • Arsenault broke up the perfect game reaching base to leadoff the fifth inning for the Roos.
  • O'Brien led the New Paltz bats with four hits, two homers and four RBI, while Ella Sharrock, Mallory Rohon and Lauren Parete all had multi-hit outings.
  • Leah Gunsett tossed a no-hitter for the Hawks with eight strikeouts and just 51 pitches in five innings.
  • Rogers took the loss for Canton surrendering nine earned runs with two strikeouts and a walk.
