Arsenault Leads Softball with Two Hits in Doubleheader vs. Bengals

Canton, NY – Shae Arsenault recorded a hit in each game to lead the SUNY Canton softball team as they dropped a pair of games to visiting Buffalo State in a SUNYAC doubleheader on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE
  • The opener was quiet early on as neither team scored a run over the first two innings.
  • The Bengals plated two runs in the third and added four in the fourth and three in the fifth for the run-rule win in five innings.
  • Sarah Balcom and Arsenault recorded Canton hits in the opener with Bella Betancur and Jordyn Tarbox drawing walks.
  • Ella Stewart went 3-for-3 with two RBI for the Bengals while Grace Albano, Gigi Martinez and Erin Paolilli had multi-hit outings. Sarah Congelosi also hit a two-run homer.
  • Gianna Core earned the win on the mound tossing a two hitter with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
  • Ace Rogers took the loss surrendering seven earned runs with a strikeout.
 
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE
  • The Bengal bats got going earlier in the nightcap as they scored at least one run in every inning with two in the first and a seven spot in the second.
  • Buffalo State added four runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 16-0 final in five innings. Overall the Bengals pounded out 20 hits in the nightcap.
  • Arsenault, Torie Moore, Emily Hobart and Hailey King all recorded hits for Canton with Moore lacing a double.
  • Natalie Burck led Buffalo State with four hits, while Congelosi and Ashley Jedrich supplied three hits each combining for seven runs and five RBI. Martinez registered a pair of hits and drove in four runs.
  • Ella Susi earned the win on the mound striking out seven and walking one.
  • Rogers took the loss allowing 15 earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
 
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos are back in action for another SUNYAC doubleheader on Saturday when they host Fredonia State at 12 p.m.
