Cortland, NY – The Red Dragons defeated the Roos by identical scores of 11-0 in a doubleheader sweep today at Dragon Field. Torie Moore, Ava Hayes, and Sarah Balcom each recorded a hit in the two-game SUNYAC set as Canton fell in their second conference series of the spring. Ace Rogers took the loss in both games, while McKenna Barry picked up the win in game one, and Gianna Endieveri won in game two.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1 – BOX SCORE

After a scoreless top half of the fist inning, Cortland led the bottom of the first off with two doubles and a single to take a two-run lead.Â

Cortland scored six in the second inning, led by a Maggie Cummings three-run home run.

The Roos went quietly in the third inning, followed by Cortland adding three more in the bottom of the third to take the 11-0 lead.

Moore started the fourth inning by taking advantage of a Cortland error to reach and subsequently steal second to reach scoring position, however the Red Dragons would end the threat without harm. Hayes recorded a single in the top of the fifth, but the Roos would fall by an 11-0 final.
GAME 2 – BOX SCORE

Canton had a promising start in game two as Moore earned a walk to start the game and Sarah Balcom followed with a single, allowing Moore to advance to third with two outs, but the inning would end with the runners stranded. Cortland used two doubles in the bottom of the first inning to bring two runs in.

Following a scoreless top of the second, the Red Dragons tacked on four more runs on four hits in the home half of the inning, taking a 6-0 lead into the third.Â

Moore would again spark some life into the Roos, singling and stealing second in the top of the third, but Barry would get Betancur and Hobart to strike out, ending the threat.

Cortland plated five runs on four hits and one charged error in the third to lead 11-0.

Canton again threatened in the top of the fifth inning after a walk and hit-by-pitch. After Moore flew out to center and Martin stole second, Cortland was able to record the final out and end the potential Roo rally.

The Roos are back in action for another SUNYAC doubleheader on Monday when they visit Morrisville at 3 p.m. Â
