Todd Sets Single-Game Saves Record, Eclipses 500 Career Save Mark vs. Cortland

Canton, NY – Hayden Todd stopped a SUNY Canton single-game program record 35 shots and surpassed the 500 career save mark in the process, but the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team dropped a 30-3 decision to visiting SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon. Todd is now just 101 saves away from setting the Roos all-time career saves record held by Kody Kocsis.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Todd was outstanding early stopping 11 of the first 14 shots he faced over the first 8:05 of the game to keep Canton in the contest early.
  • However, the Red Dragon offense eventually broke through as they scored six goals in a two-minute stretch to open a commanding 9-0 lead with 5:09 left in the first. The Red Dragons led 11-0 after 15 minutes of action.
  • Jonney Mclear got the Roos on the board scoring a man-down goal with 12:26 remaining in the second quarter. The Red Dragons scored the final six goals of the quarter to take a 17-1 lead into intermission.
  • Cortland continued to execute offensively outscoring the Roos 7-0 in the third quarter.
  • Mclear fed Austin Mesler for a goal early in the fourth quarter and Mesler scored again later in the frame.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Todd finished with 35 saves and is just 17 shy of breaking the all-time career record of 519 set by Corey Spuck. The previous single-game program record was held by teammate Sam Servati when he stopped 28 against Morrisville (2/26/22). Todd's previous career-high was 26 against Delhi (3/18/23).
  • Mesler and Mclear led the Roos with two points each. Dylan Munk and Holden Hewlett supplied four ground balls and two caused turnovers each.
  • Mason Caroll (five goals, two assists) and Stefan Swedlund (six goals, one assist) paced the Red Dragons with seven points each, while Caden Yancey tallied three goals and two assists.
  • Cortland controlled faceoffs 27-9 with Jack O'Brien going 8-for-8 and Nicky Miltenberger going 6-for-6. The Red Dragons controlled shots on goal (65-5) and ground balls (73-26). Cortland was 7-for-11 on extra-man opportunities, while Canton was 0-for-1.
