Zotter Nets Game Winner in SUNYAC Victory Over Bengals

Buffalo, NY – Freshman Nolan Zotter scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period for the SUNY Canton men's hockey team in a key SUNYAC matchup with the Buffalo State Bengals on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals got on the scoreboard first when Connor Bizal collected a rebound and deposited it past junior Nate Hopkins at 2:19
  • The Roos tied the game at 1-1 with senior Brendan Morrow scoring his fourth of the year at 13:02.  Sophomores Jordan Prepszl and Niko Schoner each earned an assist.
  • Joonas Linnavouri scored the final goal of the first period at 18:59 to give the Bengals a 2-1 lead.
  • Freshman Logan Kelly scored the lone goal of the second period at 2:37 to tie the game at 2-2.  The goal was scored on the power play with Schoner and junior Scott Cremen both getting assists.
  • Prepszl gave the Roos took their first lead of the game at 5:14 of the third period, taking a clean face off win from junior Jordyn Mughal and going bar down to claim the 3-2 advantage.
  • The Bengals Jake Meure scored a power play goal to once again tie the game 3-3 at 8:13 of the third.
  • Zotter scored the game-winner at 11:31 the third, taking a long pass from junior Reilly McKinnon and beating Buff State goaltender Marcus Cumberworth to give Canton the 4-3 win.  Sophomore Cory Liu earned the secondary assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos had 35-33 advantage in shots on goal with junior Evan Pringle leading the way with seven.
  • Canton dominated the faceoff dot winning 45 of 72 draws.  Morrow won 16 for the Roos.
  • Schoner's assist gives him 21 points on the season to lead the team.
  • The Roos were 1/5 with the man advantage, the Bengals were 1/3.
  • Hopkins and Cumberworth each finished the night with 31 saves.  Hopkins earned his fifth win of the season.

The Roos travel down the road to Fredonia State tomorrow, February 8th with puck drop at 7:00 p.m.
