Four Roos Reach Double Figures in OT Loss to Morrisville

Canton, NY – Four SUNY Canton players scored in double figures led by a team-high 23 from Kevin Goode Jr. but visiting SUNY Morrisville survived 83-81 in a SUNYAC overtime game that saw 13 ties and 12 lead changes on Friday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roos jumped out to an early 10-4 lead less than four minutes in after a Jevonte Williams three and an Eli Larson layup.
  • The Mustangs took a 13-12 lead after an Yvan Fils-Aime tip-in four minutes later. The Roos regained a five point advantage (20-15) after a Tanner Sullivan layup. Canton would lead by as many as eight (31-23) after a Goode Jr. three with 4:22 left in the opening half.
  • Morrisville used a 11-3 run to knot things at 34 apiece with less than two minutes left in the half as the teams would head to intermission tied at 36 apiece. Goode Jr. led the Roos with nine first-half points, while Jacob Works had nine for the Mustangs.
  • Canton extended its lead to seven (52-45) eight minutes into the second half, the largest for either team in the half. For the final 10 minutes of regulation neither team led by more than three points.
  • Kareem Sanders hit a pair of free throws with 2:01 left to tie things at 65 apiece. Nate Cohen responded with a pair of free throws with 1:22 to play to give Canton a two point lead. Sanders followed with a tip-in with 55 seconds to play.
  • Both teams missed three-pointers and Morrisville missed a pair of free throws to take the lead with 13 seconds left. Canton had a chance for a game-winning layup that was blocked as the teams headed to OT.
  • The Roos led by five in the extra session and had a four point lead with 41 seconds left after a Cohen jumper. Morrisville hit a three and Canton missed the front end of a one-and-one leading by one.
  • The Mustangs split a pair of free throws with nine seconds left but got the offensive rebound after missing the second attempt. With the game tied at 81 apiece Sanders hit a jumper with four seconds to play and a last second desperation three for the win fell short at the buzzer for the Roos.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Goode Jr. led the Roos with 23 points and seven rebounds on 8-for-13 shooting including a 4-for-5 mark from behind the arc. Bryon Streb recorded a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out at the end of regulation. Cohen added 16 points and six rebounds, while Larson tallied 11 points and six rebounds.
  • Sanders led all players with 33 points, while Kaelem Haskins (12) and Jacob Works (11) also scored in double figures.
  • The Roos had an edge in points off turnovers (15-8) and fast break points (13-8) while Morrisville controlled bench points (23-7) and points in the paint (44-38).

The Roos close out their season on Saturday when they host SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m.
