Seamans and Hopkins Lead Roos at Potsdam

Potsdam, NY – Junior Jack Seamans scored his first goal of the season and classmate Nate Hopkins made 30 saves but the SUNY Canton men's hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seamans opened the scoring for the Roos at 4:39 of the first period, burying home a rebound off a shot from senior Brendan Morrow.  Junior Evan Pringle earned the secondary assist on the goal.
  • Potsdam's Jeremy Quesnel tied the game at 1-1 with just 39 seconds remaining in the opening frame, snapping a shot past the glove of Hopkins.
  • Payton Felix gave the Bears a 2-1 lead at 16:40 of the second period, scoring a power play goal on a scramble in front of the net.
  • Freshman Logan Kelly almost netted the game-tying goal with seven minutes to play.  Kelly took a pass from freshman Brayden Fryfogle and elevated his shot over Bears goaltender John Werber but it deflected off the crossbar and the score remained 2-1.
  • The Roos pulled Hopkins for the extra skater in the final two minutes but were unable to get the equalizer.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Roos outshot the Bears 38-32 with Pringle and sophomore Niko Schoner leading the team with six each.
  • Morrow's assist gives him 15 points on the season, placing him second on the team.
  • Canton was 0/4 on the power play and the Bears were 1/5.
  • The Roos had a 43-32 edge at the faceoff dot.
  • Hopkins has had 30 or more saves in four appearances this season.  Werber finished the game with 37 stops.
WHAT'S NEXT?
The Roos travel to Western New York to play a pair of games against Buffalo State on Friday, February 7th and Fredonia State on Saturday, February 8th.  Puck drop for both games is at 7:00 p.m.
