HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Roos got some heavy pressure going early on with four shots on net in the first 1:20.
- With 12:04 left in the period, the Roos got a 3v2 going the other way with a clean look near the left faceoff dot by Reilly McKinnon, but it hit the right pipe.
- With around seven minutes to play in the first, Niko Schoner fed Drysdale the puck from the top of the crease into the low slot. Drysdale redirected it and the puck slid under the pad of Luciano Chinappi as the Roos opened the scoring.
- Despite dominating shots on goal at this point of the game, SUNY Canton ran into trouble after getting called for a cross-checking penalty, then only 20 seconds later, were called for a slash.
- This gave Potsdam a 5v3, and the Roos initially held their own, but with 4:32 left in the first period, Eli Doughart-Wood scored on the two-man advantage off a slap shot from out near the blue line.
- The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with the Roos holding a 17-8 advantage in shots on goal.
- Potsdam looked much better in the start of the second period than they did in the start of the first, putting together several solid shifts in the SUNY Canton zone and outshooting the Roos 7-5 through the opening 10 minutes of the period.
- The Roos committed a five-minute major with 9:26 remaining in the period, but the penalty kill looked incredible with SUNY Canton forcing dump-ins and going the other way on rush chances.
- The Roos outshot the Bears 3-1 early despite being outnumbered 4-to-5 before drawing an interference call on Potsdam.
- After some 4v4 action, SUNY Canton had a shortened one-skater advantage. As the Roos were set up in the Bears' zone, Pringle played it to Scott Cremen at the blue line and Cremen saw Logan Kelly open on the left faceoff dot for the one-timer. Kelly slapped a missile past Chinappi as the Roos went out ahead 2-1.
- The Roos held onto their 2-1 lead into the second intermission while continuing to dominate shots on goal as they were doubling up Potsdam 36-18.
- The Bears got on the power play early into the third, but the Roos won a puck battle behind their net and an odd-man rush developed going the other way with Conor O'Brien and Drysdale. O'Brien fed Drysdale the puck at the left hash marks and Chinappi could not get over in time as Drysdale scored a shorthanded goal for a 3-1 SUNY Canton lead with 16:28 left in the game.
- After this third goal though, the Bears started to ramp up the intensity. Following a zone clear, Platon Krasnoiarov beat the Roos down the ice and scored just 54 seconds after the Roos made it 3-1.
- The fast-paced 3-2 hockey game lasted for the next 10 minutes, but with just over five minutes left, Potsdam knotted it even. Owen Watson took a shot that Kelson Hooper made a save on, but Will O'Brien got the loose puck in front of the net and slid it in for the game-tying goal with 4:45 left to play.
- Regulation ended with the game at 3-3. Potsdam outshot SUNY Canton 10-5 in the third period, but shots on goal were still 41-28 in favor of the Roos.
- SUNY Canton won the opening faceoff in the 3v3 overtime, and Cremen and the Roos took it behind their net looking for options. Spencer Sasenbury came up the left side down the ice with the puck, but good defense from the Bears forced Sasenbury to behind the net where Potsdam took over.
- The Bears wasted no time coming up with speed down into the Roos zone, and Rocco Seery took a wrist shot from the left face-off dot which snuck into the SUNY Canton net as the Bears won the overtime game 4-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Drysdale's two-goal performance was a career-best for the Owen Sound, Ontario native as well as his first multi-point effort. He also led the Roos with five shots on goal while Kelly scored his second goal of the season in the game.
- The Bears had four unique goal scorers, and nine players logged points in the game. Seery scored the overtime game-winner and Watson was the only multi-point performer with two assists.
- Hooper made 25 saves for the Roos while Chinappi faced 41 shots, stopping 38 of those in his hard-earned victory.
- Final shots on goal were 41-29 in favor of SUNY Canton. The Roos were 1-for-5 on the power play and scored a short-handed goal. Potsdam scored a power play goal on their first opportunity but could not convert on their next five attempts.
